How Much Do These Services Cost?

The services provided by Labor's Community Agency are free. There is no charge for meeting
with a UMAP specialist. If further assistance is necessary, the specialist will link you
or any member of your family with the proper community agency or service.

Fees for help outside of the UMAP program are normally based on what you can afford, and
in some instances, may be covered by your health insurance.

What About Confidentiality? Strictly Confidential!

Supervisory Referrals:

If your manager or supervisor believes you are experiencing problems which are affecting your work performance, and the supervisor has documented this, he or she may suggest that
you meet with a UMAP specialist.

These supervisory referrals are neither punishment or
reward. They are a way to deal with work performance problems. Although it is hoped that you will follow the supervisor's recommendation, the decision whether or not to use the service is ultimately up to you.

Union Member Assistance Program

What is the Union Member Assistance Program?

Labor's Community Agency's (LCA) Union Member Assistance Program (UMAP) is designed
to help you solve personal problems which may affect your every day work life in a
negative way. LCA can provide a specialist to talk with you to help identify problems,
and explore potential solutions that will help you meet your needs for a healthy,
productive life-style. It can also help locate community resources if further assistance
is needed.

What Services are Provided?

The Union Member Assistance Program is a confidential information, support, short-term
counceling and referral service. The staff is prepared to direct you to resources within
the community. Also, our specialists offer up to ten sessions -- working cooperatively
with you around the issues that are interfering with your happiness and productivity.
Common stressful situations which may adversely impact your life might include:

Financial Problems
Legal Questions
Relationship Difficulties
Coping with the loss of a loved one
Drug or Alcohol Abuse
Emotional Distress

How Do I Use These Services?

One telephone call to Labor's Community Agency by you or a member of your family is all
that is needed to start the process. Sometimes just a telephone conversation will help
solve a problem before it gets out of hand. At other times, you may need to consult with
one of the UMAP specialists.

When you contact Labor's Community Agency, a staff specialist will ask you for some general
information and will set up an appointment for you as soon as possible.

Voluntary Referrals
When you contact the Union Member Assistance Program on your own, no one will know of your visit, unless you tell them.

All discussions between you and the UMAP specialists
remain strictly private.

The right of privacy is also maintained for family members. No
one outside the UMAP will get any information about you unless you request it.
