Protect Colorado's Future

Because workers’ organizing rights are diminished in states with Right-to-Work laws, an average worker earns about $7,131 a year less than workers in free bargaining states ($30,656 versus $37,787).1 Across the nation, union members earn $9,308 a year more than nonunion members ($41,652 versus $32,344).2 Clearly these laws only provide a right to work for less.

Members help to build Xcel's $100 million Smart Grid project!

The smart grid is poised to revolutionize the delivery of power to it's customers via a fully networked system, and at the same time enable 2-way communications with it's customers. Boulder was selected to be the smart grid city over seven other cities. This station will be the 1st of it's kind in the country. 95% of the work will be handled by Local 111 members! Par Electric has been awarded a contract, and will be increasing it's workforce for journeyman lineman. One of the main advantages is that the new system will allow it's customers to use the internet to find out exactly how much power they are consuming at any given time, and what that energy costs them.

Smart Grid Strategy and Vision

Thomas Edison invented the world's first functional light bulb. Then he imagined something greater—an electric grid. To fully move into the digital age, society may need to imagine something greater as well.

That something is being termed the Smart Grid and is seen as a power system that combines traditional and cutting-edge technology to create a much-improved electric grid. That grid would, in turn, support the ever-increasing array of digital services desired by consumers, while effectively managing the requisite massive flow of energy.
